LAB9: PRINTING
In this exercise, you shall look at creating a local printer on the PDC, and accessing that printer remotely from the BDC.

  1. Log on to the PDC as administrator
  2. Start the Add Printer Wizard by accessing Control Panel->Printers->Add Printer

  3. Select My Computer
  4. Select LPT1 as the local port to which the computer is connected

    Select Printer Port

  5. Click Next
  6. Select the correct printer type from the list [ask your course instructor for details]

  7. Click Next
  8. Specify the location for the printer driver
  9. Specify a suitable name for the printer

  10. Click Next
  11. Share the printer on the network, and specify the operating systems that will use this printer

  12. DO NOT PRINT A TEST PAGE
  13. Click on Finish
  14. If requested, specify the location of the required drivers
  15. Specify the Properties of the printer you are connecting
    Device Settings - Set the correct paper size
    Security - Permissions - define who can access the printer [default is Everyone]
  16. For our purposes, set the paper size to A4 and leave the security permissions at default settings

    THE PRINTER IS NOW INSTALLED AND SHARED ON THE NETWORK
    Now we shall set up the BDC to use the shared printer on the PDC.

  17. Log on to the BDC as administrator
  18. Run the Add Printer Wizard
  19. Specify a Network Printer
  20. Specify the Location of the Printer

    Connect to Printer

  21. Click on OK
  22. Click on Finish

    THE PRINTER HAS BEEN CONNECTED ON THE BDC

  23. Whilst still logged in on the BDC, open up HELP [Start->Help], and print a topic
  24. Use Start->Settings->Printers to bring up the printer folder
  25. Select the shard printer
  26. Verify that your print job entry is present, then delete it
  27. Once you have deleted the document, close the printer folder and log off the BDC
